Har Ki Dun is one of the famous treks in Uttarakhand. It is a beautiful trek and a blessing for beginners. Har Ki Dun trek starts from Sankri and is a very short trek. Irrespective of the fact that it is not filled with a very tough terrain yet it is full of excitement and unexplored land. Har Ki Dun Trekking is a very interesting trek as it is also called “Valley of Gods”. Valley of Gods is a hanging valley and looks like a cradle. This trek gives a clear view of the Swargarohini Peak which is mesmerizing. The starting point which is Sankri is a 3hrs drive from Dehradun and is a small village. You will most probably spend the night here and is great for people who like star gazing.

Arrive Sankri which is around 8-9 hours drive from Dehradun. The drive to Sankri takes you through Mussoorie, Purola, Mori, Netwar alongside the Yamuna and Tons River. The drive also passes by beautiful pine forests. Overnight stay in guesthouse in Sankri.
After breakfast in Sankri, we will drive from Sankri to Taluka in a taxi. Taluka is the starting point of the trek. The trek distance is around 15 kms and will take around 5-7 hrs. Today, you will trek through the lush green valley covered with wild orchids of Himalayas. The trail from Taluka village initially descends and then continues gradually on the true left of the valley adjoining the river Rupin.Later the trail goes through thick forests of chestnuts, walnuts, willows, chinars and a variety of conifer trees, with a few waterfalls on the way and by late afternoon reach Osla village. Osla village is fameous for its exceptional architecture and the most striking structure being the Durtodhana temple topped with a pair of carved peacocks. Overnight stay in camps at OSla village.
After breakfast,we will head towards Har Ki dun and today the trail passes through hick forests of Govind National Park which is a pristine landscape with a wonderful mixture of flora & fauna.Govind National park is fameous for its wild life species.
The trek distance is around 12 Kms and will take around 5-6hrs. Reach the Har Ki Dun campsite by late afternoon. Now,you can enjoy your photography here. Overnight stay in campsite.
Today is our exploration day those who want to enjoy the most exotic book reading session can relax in the camp and rest can trek up to Jaundhar Glacier which is around 4 Kms and takes around 3-4 hrs to reach but the view of the glacier madnificient. Trek to Jaundharghacier is completely on white snow and grass patches, a complete contrast to the grass we had been walking onto as we continue our trek to Juandharglaciers.After spending some time their,we will get back to the theHar Ki dun campsite. Overnight stay in camps.
We will head back to the Seema by the same route ad today the trail is downhill and easy one. Reach Seema campsite and overnight stay will be their.
After breakfast, head back towards Taluka where the taxi will be waiting and drive back to Sankri.
Drive back to Dehradun.
As we gain higher altitude, the air becomes thinner. To overcome this we need to develop our aerobic fitness. The more fitter you are, you will enjoy more during the trek.
1: For cardiovascular endurance, begin jogging atleast 1 month before the trek.
2: For strength do squats, push ups.
Fitness Bechmark: Jog/Run for 3 Kms in 30 mins. Remember always start your training program with stretching and warm up exercises.
The base camp of Har Ki Dun trek is Sankri. The distance between sankri to Dehradun is 190kms. There are public buses and shared jeeps running between Dehradun and Sankri. Dehradun is easily accessible through road, rail, and air transport.
Dehradun is well connected with comfortable Volvo buses run by government and private operators. You can catch luxury and normal buses to Dehradun which are available from ISBT Kashmiri Gate and Anand Vihar.
Nearest railway station to sankri is Dehradun. Dehradun is well connected by railway network with major destinations of India. There are many trains which runs between New Delhi and Dehradun. Some of them are DEHRADUN SHTBDI, DEHRADUN EXPRESS, NANDA DEVI EXPRESS, UJJAINI EXPRESS, MUSSOORIE EXPRESS, UTTARANCHAL EXPRESS.
