Uttarakhand as is known for its Garhwal Range is itself a very beautiful state. It is very peaceful and gives a break from the poisonous air clogging the cities. Uttarakhand is an adobe for many treks, one of which is Kedarkantha Trek. This trek is an easy and nice treat for the people who do not have experience in trekking and are eager to have their first Trekking experience.
Kedarkantha Trekking is a life-changing experience and gives a 360-degree view of Kala Nag, Swargarohini, Banderpoonch, Black peak. This provides a very rare view and only there are few locations in Himalaya which get such a view all these peaks at the same time. The trek starts from Sankri which is a beautiful small village and makes you feel peaceful. Kedarkantha Trekking cost is in a reasonable amount and can be afforded by anyone.

The best season to do this trek is from December to April.
Arrive Sankri which is around 8-9 hours drive from Dehradun. The drive to Sankri takes you through Mussoorie, Purola, Mori, Netwar alongside the Yamuna and Tons River. The drive also passes by beautiful pine forests. Overnight stay in guesthouse in Sankri with dinner.
After breakfast, we will trek towards our campsite at Juda Ka Talab. Juda Ka Talab is a small pond surrounded by pine forest all around and in winter it is frozen, which makes this campsite more beautiful. The trek is around 4kms and will take 3-4 hours to reach their.Overnight stay in camps.
After breakfast, we will head towards Kedarkantha base camp which is around 4kms and will take around 3-4 hours. Today the trail is steeper than yesterday and again passed through dense forest of pine and oak trees and in between the trail you will see the stunning views of peaks like Swargarohini, Banderpoonch, Black peak. The campsite is even more beautiful with view of glistening peaks.Overnight stay in camps.
We will start early today as today is the summit day. Today we have to climb from 11,200 ft to 12,500 ft and then desend back till Hargaon camp which is at a height of 8,900 ft. It will take around 6-7 hours to cover the entire journey. The trail to summit is little challenging in comparsion to others. However the views of the fascinating Himalayas make it up for all the hard work with its breathtaking views. From the summit, you can see the 360 degree view of snowclad mountains of Yamunotri and Gangotri ranges.Overnight stay in camps.
Today is the final day of the trek and we will head back to Sankri through dense pine forests. It will take around 4 hours to reach campsite. Trip end at Sankri.
As we gain higher altitude, the air becomes thinner. To overcome this we need to develop our aerobic fitness. The more fitter you are, you will enjoy more during the trek.
• For cardiovascular endurance, begin jogging atleast 1 month before the trek.
• For strength do squats, push ups.
Fitness Bechmark: Jog/Run for 3 Kms in 30 mins.Remember always start your training program with stretching and warm up exercises.
The base camp of kedarkantha trek is Sankri. The distance between sankri to Dehradun is 190kms. There are public buses and shared jeeps running between Dehradun and Sankri. Dehradun is easily accessible through road, rail, and air transport.
Dehradun is well connected with comfortable Volvo buses run by government and private operators. You can catch luxury and normal buses to Dehradun which are available from ISBT Kashmiri Gate and Anand Vihar.
Nearest railway station to sankri is Dehradun. Dehradun is well connected by railway network with major destinations of India. There are many trains which runs between New Delhi and Dehradun. Some of them are DEHRADUN SHTBDI, DEHRADUN EXPRESS, NANDA DEVI EXPRESS, UJJAINI EXPRESS, MUSSOORIE EXPRESS, UTTARANCHAL EXPRESS.
