Roopkund is a frozen lake in the higher altitudes of the Uttarakhand Himalayas. It is found at an ascent of 16,500 feet, the lake is completely deserted and is surrounded by snow-covered mountains. This 8-day Roopkund Trek, exceptional and extreme trek takes people through one of the most excellent and rare sights.
The Roopkund trekking is physically not very hard to trek and should be possible by a first-time trekker easily. Scattered human skeletons are found around the Roopkund Lake, adding a strange feeling to it. Consequently, it is, for the most part, called the Skeletal Lake or the Mystery Lake.
The Roopkund trekking Cost is affordable and offers of view as it gives an inside-out perspective of the Garhwal Range. On this trek, you will trek to the top of Mt. Trishul and get a delightful sight of peaks of Mt. Nanda Ghanti, Nilkantha and Maiktoli Peak. The total trekking distance is approx 54kms. Travel Banjare include everything necessary for trekking in the Roopkund Trekking Package so that trekking can pack light.
Arrive Lohajung which is around 9-10 hours drive from Dehradun.Overnight stay in guesthouse in Lohajung.
The trek to Roopkund Lake starts from Lohajung to a village called Didna. This will be our first camp of the Roopkund trek. The first day of the trek will introduce you to a mixed forest with diverse birds, playful streams which will give you the ‘Himalayan bite,’ the sting you get from cold streams and the village life of those living in this terrain. It will take around 5Hrs to reach Didna village.
To reach Ali Bugyal from Didna, there are two alternative routes. If you look in the direction of the valley, you would look at Tolpani which is a cluster of huts that belong to the shepherds. It is almost 3 kms away and 1000 feet high.FromTolpani, you take a trail that climbs to Tolkaan in the northern direction.Themeadow trek goes through a series of switchbacks and grassy oak mountains.FromTolkaan, you take a sharp left towards the south and steer though the ridge to come out of the forest at Ali Bugyal. The alternative route is to climb directly towards Ali Bugyal without going through Tolpani. You would certainly save on distance but it a relatively much steeper and tiring climb. It takes nearly two and a half hours to reach Ali Bugyal on this route. To enjoy the seductive views from Ali Bugyal, you need to reach there before afternoon. It is a great post monsoon trek as well as a pre monsoon trek. The day 3 is however the day when you trek to Chang Ma.This might be a difficult trek and you may experience the joy of a snow trek. You would like to spend the night here and the overnight stay would be in tents in the open lands.
Today is a comparatively easy day. Walk while listening to chirping birds and admiring the beauty of our surroundings. After few hours of trekking you will be on other side of the ridge and the view from this point is absolutely Fanta bullous. Patarnauchani on the Roopkund trek is a brilliant campsite and offers you great views all around. We should reach the campsite by the afternoon with enough to relax and acclimatize to the weather conditions and altitude. Overnight camp at Lotani.
Distance wise todays trek is not very long but it is one of the steepest section of the entire trek. Taking an early start always helps. The day's snow trek will bring you to an altitiude of 14,500 ft from 12,500 ft.It is an high altitude trekking and you would start feeling the effects of weather change and thin air and definitely the effects of high altitude. It takes around one and a half hours to reach KaluVinayak. The route from KaluVinayak to Bhagwabasa is simple and gradually sloping downwards.Bhagwabasa is 2 kms away and you can have a view of the Bhagwabasa huts from here. The trail towards Bhagwabasa goes through snow patches and you would enjoy the journey.
Climb to Roopkund is 3 km and this is the challenging day of the trek and will further climb till Junargali. After spending some time around we will head back to PatarNachauni.
It is a great journey back to Lohajung via Wan.The path is fairly simple and you would not feel any distress throughout. You would cross the oak forest as you go and the scenic beauty is just mesmerizing. You would see the end of meadows after a few minutes.
Early morning,we will drive back to Dehradun from Lohajung.
As we gain higher altitude, the air becomes thinner. To overcome this we need to develop our aerobic fitness. The more fitter you are, you will enjoy more during the trek.
